On Wednesday 13th November I attended the Actuaries’ annual lecture and supper at Staple Inn Hall.
The lecture was ‘London 2012 – The Paralympics – How London led the way’ given by Sir Philip Craven MBE. He has represented Great Britain in wheelchair basketball at five Paralympics and other major Games winning an array of gold, silver and bronze medals.
He has been President, International Paralympic Committee (IPC) (since 2001); Member, International Olympic Committee (IOC) (since 2003); Member, Executive Board, British Olympic Association (since 2003); Board Member, London 2012 Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games (since 2005) and had many other important roles in sport. He spoke quietly but inspiringly about the 2012 Paralympics preparations and the Games themselves, and showed a moving film of British Paralympians winning medals in their events. Supper was good, too.
