The day will commence at 10.30 am when we will meet for coffee and a private tour of the Henley-on-Thames River & Rowing Museum, a fascinating facility with three main themes relating to the non-tidal River Thames; the international sport of rowing and the history of Henley town.
We then relocate to the Leander Club, meeting at 12.30 pm. Founded in 1810, this is one of the oldest rowing clubs in the world. It is the most successful Olympic sports club on the planet, with names we will all know, dedicated to GB rowing success. It is also a private member club of some repute.
There will be an excellent three-course lunch, with wines, of (subject to market availability):
Trio of lobster terrine, roulade of sole, scallop mousse with beetroot gravadlax
Stuffed saddle of lamb with herb rosti, ratatouille, courgettes & a rosemary reduction
Summer Pudding with mascarpone ice cream
and at 2.30 pm we will enjoy a river trip. On our return we will take a guided tour of the Leander facility, the Boathouse being of special interest, and finish with a cup of tea before departing.
The cost for this outstanding day is a very reasonable £126 per person and guests of members are welcome.
